Welcome to NK Home Conversions
Many common queries are answered in the following Frequently Asked Questions. You can also see our gallery to see examples of our work and working practices. Should you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact us.
Can my loft be converted?90% of traditional roofs can be converted after a survey has been carried out.
How much will it cost?We offer a free, fully detailed all inclusive quote in the post to you within 7 days.
Is my loft too small? In order to comply with Building Regulations, the loft must be a minimum of 2.3m or 7'6" at its highest point. Those measurements are taken from the top surface of the ceiling boards below, to the felt at the very apex of the roof.
How long will the work take? For an average sized home, from commencement of work, we would normally be complete in 5 - 7 weeks depending on whether dormers are fitted.
Will I need a Dormer window?Nearly all lofts can have a dormer window, which can provide useful extra space in a tight loft, adding light and outlook to a room. Some smaller lofts may require a dormer at the top of the stairs to provide headroom as you climb the stairs into the loft.
What about Planning Permission and Building Regulations? Some conversions require Planning Permission and all have to adhere to Building Regulations. The quote you receive will include the preparation and submission of Plans to your local authority. We serve the appropriate notices and liaise with the authorities on your behalf.
I have a water tank and a chimney in my loft, is that a problem?Using our own plumbers, we can easily reposition any plumbing to maximise usable space in the loft. Chimney stacks usually have to remain in position, but can occasionally be removed.
What experience do NK Conversions have?We only specialise in loft conversions and have been carrying out this type of work for many years. Much of our work comes from recommendations and we have many past clients who are willing to reference our work.
What sort of disruption should I expect?Any disruption to the householder is kept to a minimum. This may include dust and noise, although the initial construction takes place from outside your property.
